H.M. Public School (Harihar Memorial Public School) is a English-medium, co-educational school in Lower Chutia, Ranchi, following a CBSE-pattern curriculum, run by Social Welfare And Research Activity in Jharkhand (SWARAJ). We teach Pre-Nursery to Class X, and our early-years unit, H.M. Play School, welcomes the youngest learners in Dwarika Puri.
Our curriculum is guided by NEP 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework (NCF), with a focus on quality-based education and holistic development beyond academics, at a minimum fee for maximum knowledge.
The school was established in 1999 in memory of Late Harihar Mahto, and celebrated its 25th Annual Programme in 2024. It was founded with the social intention of creating an educational environment that enables students to excel at the national and international level. Our motto, Education through Science and Work, essential for Innovation, Economic Prosperity and Sustainable Development, guides how we teach and how our students grow.

Named after a visionary
The 'Harihar Memorial Public School' was named after Late Harihar Mahto, a prominent social worker and agriculturist of the Chotanagpur region. The school was started to fulfil his long-cherished vision to uplift society.
According to him, not only the achievement of a career but also character building and the overall growth of the youngster is equally important. H.M. Public School is fulfilling this objective with great success.

Our beginning
A school for every child
Initially, the school was meant for families who could not afford the fees of big schools, to give their children a better education. Later on, children of all castes and communities were welcomed and the school achieved a secular status.
Today it stands as a truly inclusive institution, welcoming every child with open arms.

In the heart of Chotanagpur
The school stands on the Chotanagpur plateau in the city of Ranchi, a region rich in minerals, near the banks of the famous Subarnarekha river.
It is easily reached by road and is about 1 km from Ranchi Railway Station. With no major industries nearby, it is free of pollution and very quiet: an ideal setting for a school.

The school is run by the managing society SWARAJ (Social Welfare And Research Activity in Jharkhand), formed by a governing body of eminent educationists and citizens dedicated to the cause of quality education.
